Promoting safe and secure pubs, clubs & social spaces

We are an alliance of Licensee's, Police, Council Licensing officers and local Councillors, who work together to promote the licensing objectives to stamp out crime, disorder and illegal activities in our pubs, clubs  &  social spaces.

Who we are

Wigan Pubwatch is a small but active voluntary organisation which was set up to support Wigan licensed venues. Its key aim is to help achieve a safe, secure and responsibly led social drinking environment in all licensed premises throughout the town and thereby reduce alcohol-related crime.

Are you under 25?

If you are lucky enough to look under 25 you will be asked to provide ID to prove that you are aged 18 or over when you buy alcohol.

You are committing an offence if you attempt to buy alcohol if you are under 18.

It is an offence to buy alcohol for someone under the age of 18.

The Licensing Act 2003 & The 4 Licensing objectives:

The Licensing Act 2003 (c. 17) is an act passed by the Parliament of the United Kingdom. The act establishes a single integrated scheme for licensing premises in England and Wales used to sell or supply of alcohol, provide regulated entertainment, or provide late night refreshment. It allows some or all of these licensable activities to be contained in a single licence—the premises license—that replaced other schemes. Responsibility for issuing licences is given to local authorities, specifically London boroughs, metropolitan boroughs, unitary authorities, and district councils, who took over this power from the justices of the peace under a system of licensing committees. It came into effect midnight, 24 November 2005.

Its Objectives:

- The Prevention of crime & disorder.

- Public Safety

- Provention of public nuisance.

- The protection of Children from harm.
